XXVI.

Thursday at lunch, Leila kept an eye out for the Middle Eastern brother and sister. Just as she finished eating, the Nazari siblings walked in. It took a few tries for her to catch Teremun’s eye; he spoke to his sister, and after Uadjit checked out the long lunch lines, she said something to him before walking off toward the restroom.

As soon as she disappeared, Leila looked at Dragunov in sign. He excused them both and left with her in a ruse of their routine visit to the bathroom at the same time.

“Have something for me?” Uadjit asked when Leila walked around the corner after locking the restroom door.

“I need you to be me for an hour, tops.”

A sharp black eyebrow shot up. “I’m flattered; how?”

“By you and your brother dancing near me when Rin and I somehow get lost in the crowd. At some point, he’ll spin me away from him—we’ll swap then. You and Rin carry on dancing as Teremun and I leave. People get mistaken for another in the dark all the time; it happens.”

Her eyes twinkled with understanding and mischief. “That it does. May I ask why the deception?”

“Xander has a home on the island. Dragunov, the Spaniards, and I will break into his computer room for proof of what he’s done and what he plans to do with me.”

Looking off, Uadjit smiled, smug. “Finally. Retribution.” She looked back at Leila. “Rin is the blond Italian, correct?”

She nodded. “I’ll let him know about this switch tomorrow at a friend’s match. The less time he has to dwell on it, the less likely he is to let it slip.”

“I agree. Safer for everyone if few know.” A small smile tugged at her lips as her gaze dropped. “Good,” she said quietly. Her cheeks ever so slightly flushed.

Even though intrigued by her sudden shyness, Leila would not ask. If she admired Rin, it was Uadjit’s business.

She picked up talking like nothing had happened. “I’ll pick out some clothes for you to wear and leave them in the gym’s locker room.”

Uadjit looked back up, returning to the conversation. “So, we’ll look similar for our styles vary… Smart. You’ve thought of everything.”

“I hope.”
